j.crew for buglife x the xerces society

J.Crew Garments for Good project is back! Last year, J.Crew collaborated with Bug Life and designer Emma Smith from London in designing bee themed garments to raise awareness for these black and yellow flying creatures. The collection was a big hit and sold out very quickly after the launch. This year, J.Crew is continuing the collaboration with Bug Life from the UK but also bringing The Xerces Society and illustrator Donald Robertson from the States on board.

Screen Shot 2015-04-24 at 9.44.39 PMThe project this year is “Save the Bees”. 50% of the garments’ retail price will go to benefit both organization in their mission to save the bees.

The design this year is more playful and young. Ladies can wear a white linen mini skirt with the t-shirt for a cute casual look. Moms with daughters would have a matchy outfit that goes with the girl’s white bee t-shirt easily paired with a pastel colour tutu skirt. For mom and son matching outfit, the boy’s navy blue t-shirt can be paired with a pair of white shorts. I love the illustration on this year’s collaboration but I also love how Emma designed the different type of bees for the women, men, girls, and boys t-shirt representatively last year. Unfortunately, men don’t get a bee t-shirt this year.

If you missed out on last year’s collaboration, you can check out my post here.

Did you know?

  • Honeybees have to visit 2 million flowers to create 1 pound of honey.
  • Bees favourite flowers are lavender, echinacea, oregano, sage, and hyssop.
  • Honeybees pollinate one-third of everything we eat.
  • A solitary bee visits at least 1,000 flowers daily.
  • And in case you wonder, honeybees fly 15 mph!
