viva glam rihanna lipstick by m.a.c

I’m so excited to write about this product! It really caught my eye the moment I stepped into M.A.C. The Viva Glam lipstick set by M.A.C is a collaboration with pop star Rihanna. It is also a project with different local organizations who are helping women, men, and children who are suffering from HIV/AIDS. Every single penny from this limited edition lipstick set will go to these people in need. Pretty awesome isn’t it?

Here is a list of things that ONE Viva Glam can do:

  • 2 prepared meals per day, delivered to a person living with HIV for an entire week
  • 32 safe sex kits that include condoms and lube
  • 1 rapid oral HIV test
  • HIV tests for 14 pregnant women
  • HIV medication prescription co-pay for 3
  • 1 crisis counselling session for a person living with AIDS and struggling with addiction or homeless
  • Medicine for 5 newborns to prevent transmission of HIV from their mothers
  • Monthly transportation to or from medical appointments for a child living with HIV or AIDS

Now a little bit more about the product. I got it from the M.A.C at the Bay fro $36 CAD. The set comes with a very glamourous package, a red glitter makeup pouch, two shades of lipstick including the Rihanna Viva Glam 1 and Rihanna Viva Glam 2. The two lipsticks are meant for frost finishes. A regular frost finish lipstick at M.A.C is $16. Considering that, this is not just a product for good cause but also a product that is a great deal.

The Viva Glam 1 is a blue-red shade with a frost finish. M.A.C’s Head in the Cloud frost finish lipstick is the pearl red shade that was in the original frost collection. The Viva Glam 1 has a more pigmented finish compared to the stable red frost shade. Since it is a frost finish, it does give a bit of the shimmer when you apply to it. Not too glossy but gives enough of that shine to your lips. Every holiday season requires a nice red lipstick. And I’m loving this one so far. I’ve been wearing it to work for over a week and I’ve been receiving compliments on the shade almost everyday.

The Viva Glam 2 is a warm mauvery silver shade with a frost finish. The official description from M.A.C is a mauvery silver shade but it is more like a metallic gold shade. I know this is not an everyday colour but the gal at M.A.C showed me a very useful trick to play around with this shade. Basically, you can wear it on top of your lip pencils or other lip colours. This way, it will tone down that gold. Plus, it would give your other colours a nice shimmer touch up. The shade itself however is very party appropriate. Probably a perfect choice for the party season happening right now! I had a little bit of a trouble apply this shade on the lower lips. Especially when it is moist, the colours doesn’t go on easily. Other than that, this is a gorgeous shade and I’m loving it so far (even it is not daily appropriate).

IMG_3489Like all M.A.C lipstick, the two products are very creamy and easy to apply on the lips. It doesn’t crack my lips and is long lasting. Obviously it doesn’t stain your lips so reapplication is needed throughout the day. Colours are very pigmented and these colours are very festive to play around with.

If you’re very safe with colours and you’re not sure if you could make good use of the shades. Don’t worry. This is a very lovely set of lipsticks perfect for a gifting option. What is more glamourous than a glitter red makeup pouch and TWO limited edition lipstick with just a price at $36? This product is sold out online so if you’re ready to make a good cause and own some glamourous lipsticks, you better visit one of your local M.A.C stores soon! And if you’re waiting for it to go down for the holiday sales. I suggest you don’t. Because it is guaranteed that it will not go on promotion or sale as it is a charity item.
