Simon Fraser University Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology’s annual formal party is back!

I’m very happy and proud of my girls from the Communication Student Union events team for planning and executing such a wonderful event. Everyone had a great time and it definitely marked a wonderful ending for my final year in this faculty and SFU. Big shoutout to Katie and Sabrina!

The theme for this year’s formal was Notorious, based on the movie The Great Gatsby. It was held on the 3rd April, at Renaissance Hotel in Vancouver, banquet style.

Reception was at the ballroom’s foyer, with a full cash bar. Ballroom opens up to a dance floor and stage in the middle, and banquet tables on both sides. Each table sits 10 guests and it was free seating. It was hilarious, everyone ran into the room as if it was the Black Friday sale in America.

No one can party with their tummy rumbling. Dinner was served at 7pm once everyone got settled in.

Started with a tomato soup with fresh basil and warm bread.

For main course, we had three options registered prior the event. Options include salmon, chicken breast, and vegetarian. I ordered the chicken breast and Sav ordered the salmon fillet. The food taste average. I didn’t expect fine dining, so it was not disappointing.

The pan roasted chicken breast comes with mushroom cream sauce, whipped yukon potato, and seasonal vegetables.

Once dinner service was over, the dance floor was open up for a magic show. The girls invited a special guest, Jason the magician for the special entertainment of the night. Jason is hilarious! He started with simple magic tricks and went into inviting “victims” as he claims to join his show. There’s a few jokes that didn’t work out cause he is Asian, and he used some Asian culture in his jokes. But hey, I got it. He is so much fun to watch.

Photobooth opens, and dance floor shares great jams and dance moves after the show was over. I must say, there’s a lot of fun on the dance floor! I’m very happy that there were plenty of 90s’ music going on. 90s’ music is always looping on my playlists. 😛

Photobooth is manual. And applause for our Katie girl! She made all the props herself and they were super super lovely!
